calling on your future self
a practice to align with your sense of purpose
“Think of the big moves you have already made, from a single cell to a human being.” -RUMI
What is the calling you carry inside? Perhaps it’s this irresistible sparkle that won’t leave you alone and makes you feel more alive. Perhaps it’s like a fire within that also makes you feel restless. It’s magnificent and scary. What would it be like to tune into this energy with your being and your heart, to embody, step by step, the expansion that is your future self?
To explore this, and to align energetically with your sense of purpose, I’ve created a guided practice of Calling on Your Future Self. This is a recorded practice of about 15 minutes, accompanied by some journal prompts to support you in engaging with and integrating the insights you receive.
“The more you turn towards what you love, the more you'll discover it right here, and live from it.” -Tara BRACH
In creating this practice, I draw from my teacher Tara Brach’s guided meditation with the same title. Tara’s practice has for me been a refuge where I can tune into, and keep aligning and calibrating internally with, the sense of purpose that is unfolding and evolving for me.
Sebene Selassie writes beautifully about the need to become intimate with our deepest wishes, if we want a different world. To become intimate, we must pause and feel. This is the pathway to engage with our deepest wishes and to imagine new ways.
The practice of Calling on Your Future Self is an invitation to become intimate with your deepest wishes and to pause and feel, imagine and see, the new ways. So, in the footsteps of Tara, I’m inspired to share with you the practice that I’ve adapted, weaving in guidance from other teachers, poets, visionaries whose wisdom and calls to action move me.
“Without inner change, there can be no outer change; Without collective change, no change matters." - Rev. angel kyodo williams
Your sense of purpose, your aliveness has its own place in the tapestry of life. We exist in a world of deep interconnection. This is why inhabiting ourselves more fully also comes with responsibility.
This practice of Calling on Your Future Self invites you to you also inquire and feel into the responsibility that comes with your future self: what does it look like, personally and collectively?
“The only rule this Earth lives by is growth… There is no judgment, there is only the invitation to shed what inhibits our natural flourishing.” -ASIA SULER
As this practice nourishes the garden of your flourishing, it is designed to support a sense of trust in your process and the fact that there is no hurry. By tending to and turning towards what you love, you are already living from this place of fuller alignment. This practice is one of your companions on this journey.
